Some quick updates.
– We have moved into a real house. It has separate rooms for separate functions, like a proper laundry and a proper bathroom. It has 3 bedrooms plus a study. A kitchen with cupboards and bench space. A front door that we can use. A big backyard that is just ours. Our own clothesline. A carport. A mailbox that mail fits into. Flyscreens. Wardrobes. A television aerial. Two phone lines. Internet. I just wish we weren’t renting, because the thought of packing all this up and moving again, with even more stuff, is disheartening. I cannot believe that we had almost all of this stuff in that tiny one-bedroom unit, and now with four bedrooms, we’re still running out of space to put things. Too much is never enough.
– Devin is five days away from being 6 months old. He has two bottom teeth. Kind of. They are growing. I think he likes the new house, and we like him having his own room. He takes naps now, and sometimes puts himself to sleep. A few nights, he has slept for eight or so hours, had a bottle, then gone back to bed until 7 or 8 am. Those nights are fantastic. It’s still not perfect, but things with the little muffin are definitely better than even a few weeks ago.
– The Man wasn’t paying us money that we were entitled to for several months. Long story short, we got $750 that we weren’t expecting, and we will also have nearly $200 more a fortnight than we thought we would this year, which means our budget will just be occasionally snug, not eye-bulgingly tight.
– I have made and received countless phone calls to and from real estate agencies, gas and electricity companies, phone company (Telstra, no less), carpet cleaning service… Not to mention the in-person trips to the agencies, the rental house viewings, Centrelink, shops… I have come a long, long way from the person who would cry if she had to make a phone call, but I do not want to have to deal with anything important and grown-up for a while now. I desperately need a break from interacting with people, and I feel so much better knowing that I (touch wood) can have it now.
I need to stop now, this quick update is turning out to be not so quick, and it’s hot, and I need to go to bed. More later.
